Occupational Therapist

Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed assessments to understand patients’ needs, limitations, and personal goals.
  • Identify physical, mental, and social factors that impact their daily functioning and overall well-being.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans that target patients’ specific needs, incorporating therapeutic exercises, activities, and adaptive techniques to improve independence.
  • Implement evidence-based therapeutic interventions that address physical, emotional, and cognitive challenges, helping patients improve motor skills, regain function, and develop adaptive skills.
  • Educate patients and their families on coping strategies, self-care, and adaptive techniques to promote self-sufficiency and improve quality of life.
  • Work closely with doctors, nurses, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care and develop comprehensive rehabilitation programs.
  • Regularly evaluate patient progress, update treatment plans as necessary, and maintain thorough documentation in compliance with healthcare regulations.
  • Recommend and train patients in the use of assistive devices and adapt their home environment to enhance accessibility and safety.
  • Support patients in transitioning back to their community, work, or school settings, adapting treatment to address real-life challenges.
  • Stay updated with industry best practices and maintain compliance with regulatory standards, ensuring high-quality, and ethical care.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Occupational Therapy from a recognized institution (specialization in a specific area is an added advantage).
  • Registration with the Kenya Occupational Therapy Association (KOTA).
  • Valid license from the Occupational Therapy Council of Kenya.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001:2015 standards is highly desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
