COMMUNITY ORAL HEALTH OFFICER(COHO) – OUTSPAN NYERI BRANCH

Outspan Teaching and Referral Hospital (OTRH), a leading Level 5 Teaching and Referral Hospital within the Outspan Global health and education ecosystem, invites applications from qualified and motivated professionals to fill the position of Community oral health officer(coho) at its Nyeri Branch.

Job Summary

The community oral health officer is responsible for providing preventive, promotive and basic curative oral health services to patients in accordance with professional standards and guidelines.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • examine, diagnose and manage common oral and dental conditions
  • Carry out dental procedures such as tooth extractions, scaling and polishing, dental fillings, oral prophylaxis.
  • Educate patients on oral hygiene and preventive dental care
  • maintain accurate patient records and treatment documentation
  • ensure infection prevention and control measures are adhered to within the dental clinic
  • refer complicated dental procedures to dental surgeons and specialists
  • support and implement MOH oral health policies and standards

Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma or Degree in Community Oral Health from a recognized institution.
  • Registration with a valid license from the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC)
  • Minimum of two (3) years’ post-internship experience
  • Certificate in Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Strong clinical skills and knowledge of dental hygiene, oral health, and infection prevention and control.
  • Proficiency in computer skills (especially Health Management Information Systems).

Other Skills & Competencies

  • Ability to perform basic dental procedures (examinations, extractions, prophylaxis, fluoride application).
  • Strong knowledge of oral disease prevention, health education, and community mobilization.
  • Attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and staying updated with industry advancements.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
