About Us

The Outspan Hospital Scientific and Ethics Review Committee is an independent committee established to review the scientific and ethical aspects of research involving human participants. The committee ensures that all research conducted under the institution meets national, legal, and international ethical standards, and that the rights, dignity, safety, and well-being of research participants are protected.

The OHSERC is accredited by the National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI) and operates in accordance with national research guidelines and Good Clinical Practice.

Our Committee Composition

OHSERC is a multidisciplinary committee composed of:

  • Chairperson and Vice Chair
  • Coordinator and Secretary
  • Research experts and Clinicians
  • Biostatisticians
  • Health information management experts
  • Legal representative
  • Lay person representative

Submission Process

To submit your research for review, complete the Protocol Submission Form and attach the following documents:

  • Full research proposal
  • Informed consent form and Participant information sheet
  • Data collection tools (questionnaires etc.)
  • Investigator CVs
  • Proof of research ethics training (GCP certificate)
  • Institutional approval letter (if external researcher)

How to Submit: Submit documents via email to ohserc@houtspanhospital.org or deliver a hard copy to the OHSERC office, MRI block 3rd Floor.

Timeline: You will receive feedback within 4–6 weeks.

Meeting Dates and Submission Deadlines

The committee meets every 1st Wednesday of every month. Protocols must be submitted at least 2 weeks before the meeting date.
