25 Years of Service, A Future of Global Impact: Outspan Teaching and Referral Hospital Marks Its Silver Jubilee

12 Aug 2026 News Updates

Outspan Teaching and Referral Hospital celebrated 25 years of service to the people of Nyeri in a landmark ceremony held on 10th August 2026 at the Outspan Global University grounds. The celebration drew together stakeholders, staff, partners, and friends of the institution to reflect on two and a half decades of growth and to look ahead to the next chapter under the theme, “25 Years of Service, A Future of Global Impact.”
The event was graced by the Principal Secretary, State Department of Medical Services, Dr. Ouma Oluga, accompanied by the Principal Secretary, State Department for the East African Community, Dr. Caroline Karugu, underscoring the significance of the occasion at both the county and national level.
What began 25 years ago as a single hospital has since grown into a multi-institutional ecosystem under the Outspan Academic Healthcare Brand, now encompassing Outspan Teaching and Referral Hospital, Outspan Global University, and Outspan Serenity Centre. In his remarks, PS Dr. Oluga applauded the founding directors of Outspan Teaching and Referral Hospital, observing that their vision had given rise not only to a hospital, but to a university and a rehabilitation centre as well — a trajectory he described as a testament to purposeful, forward-looking leadership.
Speaking on the future of healthcare delivery in the region, PS Dr. Oluga emphasized the importance of sustainability in the operation of medical facilities, noting that the longevity of Kenya’s health systems depends on institutions that are built to last. He further highlighted the critical role of public-private partnerships in strengthening the country’s healthcare infrastructure, calling for continued collaboration between government and private healthcare providers to deliver robust, accessible care to Kenyans.

Unveiling the 2026–2035 Strategic

Plans A highlight of the celebration was the unveiling of the 2026–2035 strategic plans for both Outspan Teaching and Referral Hospital and Outspan Global University. The dual strategy signals a shared, forward-thinking direction for the institutions — one that builds on 25 years of clinical and academic groundwork while positioning Outspan for global relevance in the decade
ahead.
The anniversary brought together stakeholders from across Outspan Teaching and Referral Hospital and Outspan Global University, alongside staff members from every institution under the Outspan Academic Healthcare Brand. Their collective presence reflected the shared history and shared purpose that have carried the institution through 25 years — and that will carry it into the next decade of service and impact.
As Outspan looks to the future, the Silver Jubilee stands as both a celebration of what has been built and a reaffirmation of the institution’s role in shaping the future of healthcare and higher education in Kenya and beyond.
